Snap Count: the Seventies Arrive, and the Snow Rule Gets Fixed

Three things landed on the Snap Count shelf tonight. One is free if you already own the game.
The update first. A player wrote in this week with a good question: does the snow rule wipe out a 51-yard field goal kicked in regulation? The honest answer was that the rule read one way and played another. So the wording has been rewritten to say what it always meant - regulation scores stand, and snow only takes points off the board on a Close Finish or overtime kick from 40 yards or beyond, at the exact moment a blizzard should be deciding a game. Along the way the field goal length table grew two extra columns, so a kick in wind, rain or snow now gets a distance that is more realistic for those conditions. The game app applies all of it automatically, including rolling the snow check for you when a snowy game comes down to one last drive. Then the decade. The Seventies is the first Snap Count season expansion: every NFL season from 1970 to 1979, ready to play. Each season comes as a one-page team ratings sheet and a full schedule book where every game is a single row with both teams' modifiers already calculated - a game is still one d20 roll per team per quarter, nothing worked out at the table. The books follow the real shape of the decade: 182 games a season up to 1975, 196 after the 1976 expansion brought in Tampa Bay and Seattle, 224 from 1978 when the sixteen-game schedule arrived. A decade standings and playoffs sheet covers the rest, with both real playoff formats - eight teams up to 1977, ten with the wild-card round after - and regular-season ties possible all decade, exactly as they were.
The ratings are derived from what actually happened. Offense and Defense come from each team's scoring as a share of the league average, and the close-game factor comes from each team's real record in games decided by seven points or fewer. The 1972 Dolphins went 14-0 and their numbers make that entirely possible. Whether it survives your dice is another matter.
